Making beads design is one thing; being passionate and creative, is another thing. Like I always say, creativity has no boundary. Bead-making is a craft that’s widely known and practiced, but something really caught my attention about this particular bead maker. What might that be? Let’s find out.
Meet Ali Virtue, Bead maker and instructor. She creates fabulous Afrocentric jewelries and accessories, such as bead jewelry, bead brooches and lapels, bead bags, slippers and artwork and customized shirts (still working on these though).
She is from the north central part of Nigeria, from the Ebira tribe in Okene LGA, Kogi State. A graduate of the University of Port Harcourt, from the department of Biomedical Technology..
Her beads Design adventure started during her youth service. “My adventure with making bead and crafts began with just 2,000 Naira (About $6 ). I bought my first beads material with that money at some point of SAED at NYSC(National Youth Service Corp) camp” She said. Her philosophy is “dream huge but you could start small”.
“My experience so far has been an amazing one with memorable events. Both good and bad times. I have always loved anything creative. That has been one of the many ways through which I express my self.”
Her good knowledge of crafts, made it easy to empower others, especially students.” What inspires me is my desire to see people become financially independent. I also love creativity, it helps me express myself” she emphasizes.
She feels glad when she finishes any of her beads design, and more pleasure when she sees her student round-up with their beads design as well. Obviously she loves what she does. She believe through bead making her students will gain financial freedom, even in the midst of the harsh economic challenges in the country.
“I believe soon, I’ll build one of the biggest schools in Africa, where only skills will be thought” She said.
The major thing I admire about her is her passion and enthusiasm for what she does. Below are some of her hand-made beads design:
